Tre Uomini by Andrea Conti is the story of three men from the sky – men who fell, and landed in a formation. They were dressed in business suits, and barefoot.
The book, published in Italian, is based on Rene Magritte’s painting, Golconda. In it men dressed in business suits, great coats and bowler hats seem to fall from the sky. Or do they? Perhaps they are floating upward? These are questions Conti asks in his book.
3U – a combination of three enterprises out of Rimini – Istanee Production, Immaginificio, and Audio Tre are joining hands to create a web video series based on Conti’s book. The outline and script are written by Istanee Production. Directors are Simone Campanati and Andrea Bartoli. Music, sound recording and effects are under supervision of Stefano Ravaioli. The series will be called 3U – La Notte dell’Uomo, or the Night of the Man. It will consist of eight ten-minute episodes. Each will ask the burning question, “Who are the Three Men?” The episodes will have elements of psychological thrillers, but will also encourage people to examine their own approach to life.
This is consistent not only with the theme of the novel – which has gained quite a following – but also with the theme of the painting that inspired it. Magritte was a surrealist who walked even outside the parameters of that art form. This web series will also be different; something new to an ever-evolving visual/audio art genre.
The general plot revolves around four friends – two couples – who encounter the three men. They leave for a weekend in the mountains, and become lost just as the broadcast is going out about the men from the sky. The men wear tuxedos, and have no bruises or wounds; but they are barefoot. Some witnesses say that they saw the men falling down in a line. The choices made by the four friends will affect their own and humanity’s lives forever.
Wow! Does that resonate, or what? It sounds as if it will have elements of recent television and made-for-Netflix series, such as Supernatural, Sense8, and Hemlock Grove. But this one will be available on the Web, which is a different and interesting approach. Clearly, it will have a more sophisticated approach than series such as Red and Blue that have been previous made for and distributed through YouTube. Even if you don’t speak Italian, and have to read subtitles, this one sounds like a winner.
