Admit it. The Information Age is also the Insomnia Age, because all the gadgets that you’re connected to are constantly responding to communications. Technology never sleeps. And as a result, sometimes it’s hard for you to fall asleep because you’re checking your smartphone all through the night. What if your technology worked the night shift, providing you with information but also making it easier for you to sleep? Wouldn’t it be a lot simpler if information could be on display while you’re in your bed? That’s what Yvonne Joh thought. Joh is the creator of the DreamMe hardware and app that keeps you current with information by displaying it on the ceiling of your sleeping room. All you have to do is start the app, set DreamME onto your smartphone or table, and stay tuned at night.
Joh’s Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign has already surpassed its original $7,971 goal; with more than two weeks remaining until the September 23 deadline, crowdfunding backers have donated nearly $13,000 to this campaign.
Your smartphone is already charging on your nightstand when you go to bed, right? That’s what makes the process so effortless. DreamMe uses your phone to project part of the display on your ceiling while the phone charges. The displayed information is readily visible because your room is dark. The app lets you choose what categories of information to display: you decide if it’s going to serve as a projection alarm clock, or give you a weather report, or let you know that you have new messages. Feeling tired?
The app’s counting sheep feature makes it possible for you to use your smartphone at night to ease into sweet dreams. If you want to send a memo to yourself (or provide one to remind your spouse to stop snoring), DreamMe has it covered.
The functionality of the app displays:
- Local time and date; current time in other cities
- Weather locally and in other cities
- A personal message
- Show number of unread mails
- Show the latest Twitter tweet
- Sheep counting for sleep
The DreamMe is made of nonslip and lightweight material that’s scratchproof. The focus is easily adjusted to suit the dimensions of your room. The high-quality, spherical, lightweight lens is manufactured by a renowned German optics company. No batteries are needed; DreamMe’s hardware uses its special optical system to display the information right from your smartphone to the ceiling of your room. If you’re on travel, the DreamMe is the perfect roommate to make sure that you know the time even if you’re in a different time zone, are aware of how to dress to suit the weather, and can get to sleep in an unfamiliar environment thanks to the sheep strolling across your ceiling.
Joh credits her friends for helping her to refine the DreamMe concept; she often shares her ideas with friends so that they can brainstorm together. Developing ideas is a favorite pastime for Joh when she’s not at work in her store selling home and garden design furniture. “You can say I am a hobbyist inventor,” she explains. For Joh, customer satisfaction on a daily basis is her goal. With DreamMe, customer satisfaction is at work 24/7.
