4-Panel Life Brings Jen-Jen Rose’s Comic to Print

Jen-Jen Rose’s 4-Panel Life Comic Book

Twenty-four year old freelance artist Jen-Jen Rose of Salem, Oregon, is in the process of watching her childhood dream come true, thanks to the Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign that is now underway. Her comic book, 4-Panel Life, is a slice-of-life webcomic that has been inspired by Rose’s personal life. Containing behind-the-scenes content, artist commentary, illustrations and more, the 100-page comic will be reproduced as a full-color paperback with the proceeds from the campaign.

Jen-Jen Rose’s 4-Panel Life Kickstarter Crowdfunding Campaign.

With material from both the web series as well as from exclusive-to-the book content, 4-Panel Life has already surpassed the original $10,000 goal and with a deadline of July 3 still several weeks away, the campaign has brought in over $20,000 from contributors. That provides enough time for Rose to aim for some of the impressive stretch goals that her campaign would like to reach if funding permits.

All of her Kickstarter earnings are designated to go to the production of the comic. That funding will cover the costs of printing, packaging, shipping, the rewards that she’s offering, and the other expenses that are part of the production process. Having a printed version of her work, just as it’s the culmination of a dream, is also a springboard for future work that will build upon her success.

Rewards for the Kickstarter donors include digital downloads, the book plus a pdf version, a signed copy of the book, signed postcards, bookmarks, and other merchandise. For budding artists who appreciate Rose’s technique, the artist offers a one-on-one chat about the donor’s comics. She’ll review your work and critique it, and give advice based on what she’s learned from her years as an artist. Rose stresses that she’s not a teacher, but for fans, a lesson from a favorite artist offers an opportunity to learn techniques that they’re already familiar with through her prior work.

Rose is delighted with the success of her campaign. “I’ve wanted to print 4-Panel Life into a book for quite some time now, though unfortunately, on my own, it’s not something I can afford.” Thanks to the overwhelming Kickstarter support, she’s been able to create the comic in printed form for publication. Now, crowdfunding support will make the rest of her dream come true. All of her Kickstarter earnings are designated to go to the production of the comic. That funding will cover the costs of printing, packaging, shipping, the rewards that she’s offering, and the other expenses that are part of the production process.

Jen-Jen Rose’s Comic Book Career

Rose began her webcomic in 2010 and during the years since then, she’s been able to develop a following that she never would have imagined back when she started. Rose thanks all her supporters by saying, “I am so honored by the love the series has received and would love to now share the series with you outside the Internet.” Now that the book is finally here, fans will have the chance to enjoy 100 different comics, some that have been seen before by web fans and some that will be available for view for the very first time.

Why does the book offer so much for an audience already attuned to Rose’s talent? Maybe because it’s inspired by the clumsiness and everyday blunders that everyone knows all too well. Comics provide a wonderful source of entertainment for their fans but the true-to-life exploration that Rose offers gives readers a special way to connect with the genre and with the artist’s unique view of the world.

Not only is this effort Rose’s first Kickstarter campaign but it’s also her first venturing into self publishing. However, she’s confident in the success of her project and also can count on the assistance of other experienced people who can offer direction and guidance. She’s determined to make sure that everything goes well. Because she’ll be doing the majority of the packaging and mailing herself, delivery may take a little time but rest assured that your book is on its way. She does caution donors outside the United States that shipping will take a little longer to reach them, but she asks them to be patient.

Jen-Jen Rose’s 4-Panel Life Future.

The success of her campaign makes it even more possible that she’ll be given the opportunity to proceed with her stretch goals, which include more 4-Panel Life merchandise, more bonus illustrations, a soundtrack, a hard-cover version of the comic, an animated series, an anime figure and more. These are ambitious plans but Rose has reason to be optimistic because her campaign’s success demonstrates the popularity of her work.
