The Howler King, Beware of Howler
The fantasy writing genre is phenomenally popular. This is due in large part to the ability of the story to be limited only by the imagination and creativity of the author. It is for this reason that a talented author can take these fantastic stories and shape them into something compelling and memorable. The short story “The Howler King” offers a great example of a fantasy which offers depth in its characters. This highly enjoyable work of fiction is now being expanded into a novel project.
J. Lloyd Morgan is the author behind “The Howler King”. He is a Brigham Young University graduate with a degree in Communications and a minor in English. In addition he received a Master’s degree in Creative Writing. He currently works as a college English teacher. In addition to being a former television director, J. Lloyd Morgan is both an award winning writer and a bestselling author. Glowing reviews have stated that he “has the ability to get into the hearts and minds of the characters and breathes into them as they jump to life on the pages right before the reader’s eyes.” He has written seven books in total. The new novel, which does not have a name yet, is expected to be the first instalment in a brand new series.
“The Howler King” revolves around an evil magical king who held an extraordinary power. The evil so-called king held the ability to create an army of intelligent wolves, nearly the size of horses, who could talk to each other and plan attacks. These magical beasts were ferocious and knew no mercy. Prior to the beginning of the novel the Howler King is defeated by a group collectively known as the heroes. Now Howlers roam without a master. The people of this world now live wary of all magic. Pendr is a simple blacksmith who settles in the town of Knichka with his wife Vimea and son Eladrel. He is a veteran of the Howler King War. All is well until one day Pendr’s brother-in-law the farmer Zyrr and wife Crysta arrive so that she can visit with her sister Vimea. It was during this visit that the family learned that young Eladrel had an unexpected aptitude for magic. It was common knowledge in this world that magical ability could only be passed down from parent to child. This story reveals that there is more to Pendr than anyone thought possible.
“The Howler King” is a very interesting short story which paints a series of likeable protagonists into a completely new world of magic and monsters. In order to support the completion of the novel project there is a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign in place until March 23rd. There are many rewards associated with this campaign. For a donation of 25 dollars funders will receive an autographed copy of the novel when it is completed and their name will be included on the acknowledgement page of the book. A crowdfunding pledge of 100 dollars comes with the unique opportunity to have a character in the book named after you.
