Juls Bindi and her little dog, Russell, chose April Fools Day (April 1st) to launch a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for Juls’ invention – the Zugopet Handbag, a pet fashion statement. The day was picked to remind pet owners of the importance of restraining their four-footed family member while traveling. A dog (even a small one) or a cat that is unrestrained while traveling in a motor vehicle can cause automobile accidents. Furthermore, your animal friend is just as much at risk for flying through a windshield as a baby or child.
Russell was the inspiration for the Zugopet Handbag. Juls got him from a rescue pet adoption display. He was thin, sick – clearly he had been abandoned. She says taking him home was the best decision she ever made.
But Russell had a lot of anxiety – and it was even worse when they had to travel. Juls wanted some way to relieve his stress, but could not find anything on the market. Furthermore, looking good is important to her, and she wanted to design a functional carrier that would also look good and be easy to handle. Thus, the Zugopet carrier was created.
The Zugopet carrier, at first glance, looks like a designer handbag. It also has some built in features you won’t find with your average soft pet carrier. First of all, its square-cut design allows pet owners to position it under a chair or coffee table for a nervous pet to use as a hiding spot or bed. Second, it comes equipped with over-the-shoulder, clip-on carry straps that can be removed and used for a leash. The straps can also be used to secure the carrier between two bucket seats so that your friend can ride near you and see out the window.
You do not need to worry about your pup flying out of the bag and through the window, however. The carrier comes with a matching harness that can be clipped to the top of the bag. The harness serves the same function as your seatbelt.
The bag is also airline compliant, and easily fits under an airline seat. It has an outside pocket that can either serve as a purse or be used to carry extra supplies – such as a doggy poop bag. It also includes a fuzzy blanket, for a little extra security.
Russell loves his carrier. He feels snug and secure in it. While all pets are different, there is a very good chance that your pet will enjoy the Zugopet carrier, as well. Not only is it suitable for small dogs, but is also a good choice for cats.
Rewards for your contribution is either a carrier or related products. In just two days, this campaign has met its basic goal – so you need not worry about whether you will receive your products. Boutiques are already requesting orders of this unique product. Funds raised from the crowdfunding campaign will be used for the first production run. From each bag that is sold, $1.00 will be donated to shelters; and any 501(c)(3) that sells a bag will receive 100% of the profits.
